The Mental Health Therapist is responsible for the provision of effective, quality mental health treatment to Counseling Program clients.


  1. Education: Master's degree in counseling, social work, or related field.
  2. Certification: Must be certifiable as a Qualified Mental Health Professional. Within 6 months of hire, must have a licensure plan approved by appropriate licensing board or be an active LCSW, LMFT, or LPC.
  3. Bilingual: Must be able to conduct therapy sessions in Spanish.
  4. Experience: A minimum of one year of experience working in direct treatment with children with mental health issues, and their families. Full time equivalent experience is desirable.
  5. Driver's License: Must have a driver's license that is valid in Oregon, have an acceptable driving record, and be insurable under the Agency's auto insurance policy.
  6. Knowledge of child and adolescent developmental issues.
  7. Knowledge of evidence based modalities and alternative approaches to address objectives.
  8. Knowledge of mental health treatment issues, including DSM-IV diagnostic criteria.
  9. Knowledge of individual and group counseling and therapy techniques.
  10. Knowledge of caseload management.
  11. Knowledge of crisis assessment and intervention techniques.
  12. Ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of an integrated team.
  13. Ability to relate effectively with youth, parents, community, and referral sources.
  14. Ability to work in a stressful, unstructured environment, and maintain a positive mental attitude.
  15. Ability to effectively evaluate client progress and make adjustments to treatment.
  16. Exhibits good communication skills.
  17. Demonstrates cultural sensitivity and ability to work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  18. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  19. Ability to engage in respectful and collaborative problem solving on matters of significance.
  20. Ability to write and maintain concise and complete treatment plans and progress records in a timely manner.
  21. Presents with professional appearance appropriate to the position.

  1. Provide 22 hours each week of a wide range of clinical services including individual therapy, family therapy, group therapy, case management, and consultation to referred clients.
  2. Conduct diagnostic assessments and determine and develop treatment plans based on identified needs.
  3. Maintain records in accordance with Looking Glass standards.
  4. Meet with supervisor for clinical and administrative supervision as directed.
  5. Attend scheduled meetings.
  6. Consult with teachers, parents, probation/parole officers, and other community professionals as appropriate.
  7. Represent Looking Glass interests to community professionals, and may independently act as a liaison or consultant between the program and other agencies.
  8. Participate in training and professional development activities to meet credentialing and program expectations.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned.
